After a quiet couple of weeks while many of our members will be sitting exams, the CURAS juggernaut rolls on in June with a trip to Ely in collaboration with our local branch of Young CAMRA. The trip will take place on Saturday 9th June and we will meet at Cambridge railway station at 11:20 with the plan to catch the 11:35 to Ely. We will be having a pub lunch and in the afternoon we will have the chance to take in a number of Ely’s other great pubs. We expect to return in the late afternoon but the timing of this is currently flexible.
If you are planning on coming along, please email firstname.lastname@example.org so we can have a rough idea of numbers; this is purely informal so there’s no obligation to come if you do email. Please also email this address if you cannot make this time at the station and would like to join us later. Any enquiries on the day should still be directed to our committee address email@example.com.
On Wednesday 23rd May, we have been kindly offered a cellar tasting at the Cambridge Beer Festival on Jesus Green. The tasting starts at 13:00 and will cost £12 on the door (please bring cash as we will not have the facility to accept cards). It will consist of a selection of the festival’s highlights picked out especially by their excellent cellar staff.
Sign up on this Doodle poll if you’d like to attend.
After the tasting would be an excellent chance to volunteer at the festival. The festival is only able to run with the support of its volunteers, so please do sign up if you are able to. There is no minimum time commitment or experience required and there will be some free food and beer and a volunteer t-shirt for those helping out. It is also a great chance to learn more about keeping and tasting beer.
If you’re keen, the details for signing up to be part of the Cambridge Beer Festival as a volunteer can be found in this letter from the organisers.
If you’re looking to become a CURAS member this term, we are running two membership nights:
- Friday 11th May
- Saturday 19th May
Both will be held in The Maypole from 19:00 to 21:00. To sign up, you will need £5 cash and your Cambridge or ARU student ID card. Feel free to sign up a friend if you can provide their ID card or a picture of it.
The final deadline for new memberships is 21:00 on 19th May, i.e. the end of the second membership evening. If you would prefer to sign up by email, you can also join by emailing either our committee or the address given in our mailing list emails (if you already on the mailing list). Be aware that the deadline for email sign-ups is the same.
As the Cambridge Beer Festival approaches, now is a good time to join CURAS for free entry and queue jump. Membership also provides free entry to the CURAS garden party in June.
Our Easter 2018 Term Card is now available to download here. Further details of exact event dates will be published closer to the time.
We hope many of you can join us for what looks to be an exciting term!
