Castle Hill is famed for its pubs, and although the Castle’s green and white fronted exterior does not stand out, it is certainly worth a visit. Whether you are looking for food, beer or a place to socialise, The Castle will accommodate you comfortably. The interior is clean, but the variety of nooks and crannies maintains a traditional pub feel. Furthermore, the staff are always helpful, and in summer the large courtyard is a pleasant spot.

Beerwise, an ale drinkers needs are easily satisfied at The Castle. As an Adnams pub it sports at least 4 such beers on handpump including the complex Broadside and the lighter Explorer and Lighthouse – it even sells their own lager (Spindrift)! These are supported by a further 6 ales including a couple of (slowly) rotating guests. In addition, as with everything else in The Castle, the beer is kept in good condition. A decent selection of lagers and cider on tap helps to make up a well-stocked bar. However, the price is a bit high even for Cambridge standards.

However, for food economy The Castle is a good place for students; an excellent regular menu of pub food is complemented by a changing specials board above the bar. The burgers especially make a popular choice, priced at around £6 with chips and £4 without (EDIT this is probably out of date), and are filling, tasty and different. The highlight of these is the Castle burger, a double burger with a combo of blue cheese and pineapple. All in all, The Castle’s food, drink and atmosphere make for many an enjoyable night in the city.
