Beer Festival Cellar Tasting

On Wednesday 23rd May, we have been kindly offered a cellar tasting at the Cambridge Beer Festival on Jesus Green. The tasting starts at 13:00 and will cost £12 on the door (please bring cash as we will not have the facility to accept cards). It will consist of a selection of the festival’s highlights picked out especially by their excellent cellar staff.

Sign up on this Doodle poll if you’d like to attend.

After the tasting would be an excellent chance to volunteer at the festival. The festival is only able to run with the support of its volunteers, so please do sign up if you are able to. There is no minimum time commitment or experience required and there will be some free food and beer and a volunteer t-shirt for those helping out. It is also a great chance to learn more about keeping and tasting beer.

If you’re keen, the details for signing up to be part of the Cambridge Beer Festival as a volunteer can be found in this letter from the organisers.

Belgian Beer Tasting with The Elm Tree

geograph-4353192-by-Bill-BoadenThose of you who attended our Around the World Tasting will have had an introduction to the rich brewing tradition of Belgium. At 20:00 on Tuesday 6th March, we will be taking part in a Belgian beer tasting at The Elm Tree, an excellent pub with a Belgian beer specialism on Elm Street.

There is a limit of 12 people and the cost will be in the range £10-£12 for members and £12-£14 otherwise; the exact figure will be confirmed closer to the time. In order to make sure the right amount of beer is available, we will need everyone attending to sign up via this Doodle poll.

Whether you’re well versed in Belgian brewing culture or just interested in getting started and broadening horizons, there should be plenty to enjoy!

Novice Tasting at St. Catharine’s

Our first tasting this term will take place at St. Catharine’s this Saturday 28th October at 19:30. It introduces a broad selection covering the most popular types of ale you’re likely to encounter. More experienced ale enthusiasts fear not: The selection may be accessible but the quality of the examples on offer should provide plenty to enjoy even for those who’ve been around the block.

To sign up for this event, a Doodle poll has been provided so you can supply your name and CRSid (please do include both as this means we can contact you without needing to email our entire mailing list). There are 15 places available and the cost is £10 for members and £12 for non-members.

Click here to access the Doodle poll.

Once you’ve signed up with the poll, please pay your £10/£12 into the following account:

Sort code: 090129

Account number: 09926040

The reference should be your CRSid. If you have signed up, please pay before 19:30 on Wednesday 25th October otherwise you will regrettably not be able to attend even if you have put your name down.

For those (hopefully many) of you coming along, we will be meeting at the St. Catharine’s porters’ lodge at 19:30 before proceeding to the OCR (above the dining hall).
